Théâtre des Petites Lanternes

Our creations ar driven by PEOPLE

The Petites Lanternes (PL) company creates theatrical experiences for all audiences that deconstruct the everyday, bringing joy and meaning to our lives. Active in Quebec, across Canada, and internationally, our team leads artistic collaborations open to citizen participation, whether for short-term projects or ongoing initiatives. In the Eastern Townships, we are strengthening our regional roots to develop a distinct and committed artistic identity. Convinced that the arts play an essential role in social ecology, the PL company ensures that its creations enrich the lives of individuals and communities, fostering well-being and connection.

Recognition of First Nations and Traditional Territories

The Petites Lanternes company recognizes that the sites where its activities take place are part of the unceded traditional territory of the Abenaki and the Wabanaki Confederacy. Their traditional lands included parts of southeastern Quebec, western Maine, and northern New England.

The Abenaki and Wabanaki derive their name from a word in their language meaning “people of the land of dawn” or “people of the East.” They belong to the Algonquian linguistic and cultural family. Settled in Odanak and Wôlinak, they are renowned for their basketry, traditional dances, masks, totem poles, and Quebec’s first Indigenous museum.

The company also acknowledges the historical stigmatization of the First Peoples of what is now called Canada, as well as the responsibility we have as a society and as citizens to be actively engaged in the process of reconciliation. Through its various creative approaches, Petites Lanternes is committed to promoting dialogue.
